The Mechanical Monsters is the second in the famous Fleischer series of Superman cartoons and contains two notable "premieres" -- the first time Superman uses his x-ray vision and the first time Clark Kent uses a phone booth to change into Superman. In this short, Metropolis is the scene of a series of strange crimes.

With the budget these cartoons were on ($50,000 in then-dollars, about $750,000 in now-dollars), they'd best have brought in the best of the best. These cartoons smoke everything and anything that came out after it.

Crazy to think how long it must have taken them. This is real animation.

Love the way these artists rendered these cartoons back in the day. This stomps CG. Note the detail in all of this. THAT!...is talent. lol.

"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" influences the droids in "The Mechanical Monsters". Do the robots in "Sky Captain" look familiar? Watch the movie and then, watch this YouTube video and notice the similarities.
